While many shops will claim to do transmission repair, many of them simply don’t have the specialized knowledge, experience or tools required to do it correctly. Does your repair shop have the knowledge and experience needed to make an accurate transmission diagnosis? Could it be something much less expensive like a simple shift solenoid, sensor or even engine performance issue? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions then we offer this simple test; ask to see their transmission rebuild room. If they cannot show you a dedicated clean room for making transmission repairs then odds are their experience is limited to only replacing transmissions and they will probably recommend a new transmission for every transmission problem. Do you want to risk paying for a new transmission even if you don’t need one?
Hey look, we have access to and can sell you the same part they want to install; probably for the same price or less but at Cedar Transmission & Automotive you will have many more options available and the advice will be expert. We have the knowledge and experience to guarantee we will never oversell! Come on in for a second opinion and let our experienced technicians diagnose your transmission problem correctly and recommend only the repairs that are needed; after all, transmissions are our specialty

What’s a rebuilt transmission? What’s a remanufactured transmission? These are questions we get asked quite frequently and the answer is; these are two different words that really mean the same thing. Generally speaking, however, reman or remanufactured is a term we use to describe a transmission that has been rebuilt in a factory setting and is shipped to the repair shop, ready to be installed as a complete unit. Rebuilt is the term usually used to describe removing the transmission from your vehicle and rebuilding it right in the repair shop.

All things being equal, there should be little to no difference between the two options given that the rebuilder and/or remanufacturer should both find and correct the cause of failure, replace all worn and damaged components with replacement parts that meet or exceed OEM quality, make any necessary updates to components that have been redesigned due to frequent failure and reassemble the transmission correctly using factory specs. Sounds easy enough right? Which option should you choose? Well, therein lies the rub… That’s a fairly broad question and the answer really depends on the quality standards set by the rebuilder or remanufacturer. Maybe more important than the quality of the transmission is the shop performing the diagnosis.
REBUILT VS REMANUFACTURED
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
THE DIAGNOSIS: DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED A TRANSMISSION?
It’s a fact that many of today’s vehicles exhibit transmission problems and don’t actually need a new transmission. There are a variety of electrical solenoids, sensors and computer systems that control and maintain proper transmission function. If one of these goes haywire then in most cases the transmission may not shift correctly, if at all. Engine performance is also very closely linked to transmission operation. Engine misfires, clogged catalytic converters (exhaust) and even clogged fuel filters have landed many customers at our door, absolutely convinced they needed a transmission.

If the technician performing the diagnosis is lacking in the skill or experience with your car’s transmission, you just might be paying for a transmission whether you needed one or not. Only a qualified, professional transmission can diagnose your car reliably and tell you for certain whether you actually need a rebuilt transmission of if a much less expensive repair will fix the problem.
